| Borderline Comment: Lewie's Blues Shack come from Burton on Trent and the exceptional vocal talent of the band’s front man is complimented by the skill of the musicians around him. They perform blues from such artists as Robert Johnson, B B King, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Cream, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Lonnie Brooks, Eddie Boyd and also some of their own material. The guys pride themselves on reaching all corners of the Blues market and don’t stick to a pre-defined musical format. Their version of “Cheap Red Wine” is without doubt the best I have heard, even better than that released by “Johnny Lang” on his “Lie To Me” album.
Biography: To find a band that have been on the music scene as long as Lewie D’s Blues Shack is very rare and Truly a great achievement. You could say that being in a band is really like being married. Everyone in a band has different personalities and clashes are bound to happen. But to find a group of people whom at times have their ups and downs but contain a musical magic are special and this band seem to have just that. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that these guys really work as a team. And they have an aura when playing. Always hoping to play something new to a room full of people and introducing new songs to them pulls the band along and sets them above other 3 chord blues drivel. While I watch them on stage and follow the looks of other people who seem fixed on the stage watching and listening in a hazy hypnotic cloud of wonder. Where did these come from? How did they meet? What pulls them along and makes them rehearse. And who the hell is that bloke with the hat on who breaks into a crazy grin and is such a character you want to take him home with you. I felt I must find out. I wanted to know about everything and invited myself around to Lewie’s Studio in Doveridge. I took around a tape recorder and bottle of JD because Lewie insisted. For the first and last time this below is the full interview with Lewie D about the roots of the band.
